Layover Hotels

Holiday Inn Tobu Narita

Not much to say. Uncomfortable beds and free internet in the rooms. There is a "Family Mart" across the street if you run out of Ramen. Crew room is in the East Tower on the 2nd floor. Beer in the vending machine is around ¥200.

Free shuttle bus leaves at :20 past the hour, most of the day to Narita Town, and The Jusco Store.

Small Gym is free if you go in before 10:00am, ¥400 after that.

Nikko Winds

Hotel Nikko

ANA Hotel

Excel Hotel Tokyu

Hilton Narita

Very Nice Hotel. Three restaurants (Chinese, and two Japanese) plus the Lobby restaurant.

Nice Gym, and pool.

Shuttle runs to Narita town and Aeon Mall, as well as airport several times an hour.

Note: There is no "executive floor" at this Hilton, but the rooms on the top two floors are much larger, and reserved for HHilton Gold and above.

Getting Around

  • City Loop Bus (BUS ¥150) - This bus will costs Y150 And will take you from the hotels listed above to the Aeon Shopping Mall, Narita Town, and a few other shopping areas.

Things to See and Do

Narita-san Shinsho Temple

The temple grounds are comprised of a main gate, a steep stairwell and the main buildings (including a couple five-story pagodas), and a garden area with large pond with fish and turlte. A very small zoo is also within the temple grounds.

The mail hall is a buddhist worship area. The interior is based on Indian buddhist design but has a distinct Japanese impression. Throughout the day visitors come to sit and to pray aloud.

Shopping

Aeon Shopping Mall

This is a huge shopping mall with a large food court (try the sushi place, it is all made to order fresh and quite cheap), shops, Starbucks, Tulleys, Hard Rock Cafe, and Jusco department Store.

Where to Eat

Noodle/Ramen House (Ramen Bayashi)

When you exit the bus near Narita Station and start walking down the main road it is the first little alley on the right. It is on the right hand side of the alley. You will know you are in the right place by all the various airline stickers in the wall above the door inside. They also sell the famous Japanese Quick Flip bottle openers.

Indian Resturant

This place is quite a ways down the main Narita road. It is on the right hand side, just past The Flyers Club right before you start down the hill to the Shinsho Temple. They have an All-You-Can-Eat special for airline crew members:

AIRLINE CREW SPECIAL ¥1480
ALL YOU CAN EAT
--------------
Three Curries:
*Butter Chicken Curry
*Vegetable Curry
*Today's Special
Nan and Rice
Chicken Tikka, Potato Pacora
Green Salad
Includes one drink (Wine, Beer, Tea, Juice)

Teco Teco

Teco Teco
Teco Teco

An EXCELLENT Brazilian place. It is a little difficult to find if you have not been there before. When walking down the main street in Narita, just prior to The Barge, look for an alley on the opposite side of the street from The Barge. Is winds down a short hill, and Teco Teco is near the bottom of it. It is run by a Brazilian guy (Leo) and his Japanese wife (Ayumi), and they make excellent Brazilian meats (try the combination platter, it is around $20USD but well worth it). They will also mix up a mean Caipirinha (Traditional Brazilian cocktail made with granulated sugar, limes and cachaca).

Cafe Bon

Clubs, Bars, Nightlife

JetLag Club

Run by former Sabena flight attendant. Good variety of beers including Belgian Lambics. Happy hour from 8:30 to 9:30 PM and again from Midnight to 1:00 AM.

The Truck (the Trailers)

This place is world famous. It is basically a few cargo containers hooked together and has now become a staple of Narita night life. Around 11:30PM a minibus will come by in front of the McDonalds to pick up everyone from Narita town who wants to go to The Truck. It is a wild karaoke bar full of drunk crew members. It is pretty much a must see. They run a free shuttle at 1:30am and again at 3:00am to all the major hotels. It is called "The Drunk Bus" for obvious reasons.
Note: It seems the Truck has lost a lot of its appeal. It's still the same senseless immensly-drunk-karaoke-orgy, but there are less crews these days.

The Barge Inn

Open 10am - 2am

The Barge Inn is an traditional 18th century British Pub located on historic Omotesando Street in the heart of Narita City.

The Flyers Lounge

The Cage

Kaisei Station, take the upper exit and turn right. Can't miss it. It seems to be the new nightlife hot spot in Narita. Lots of booze, lots of fun.
