Overview
Frankfurt International Airport is a major airport south of Frankfurt, Germany. It ranks among the Top 10 airports in the world and is the airport with the most international destinations.
Frankfurt is a major hub for Lufthansa and Condor and one of the most important cargo airports in Europe.
Runways
The airport has two parallel runways (running east-west) which can not be used independently due to their proximity to each other. A third runway (north-south) is located to the west of the airport, but it can only be used for takeoffs and only southbound.
Terminals
Frankfurt Airport has two passenger terminals, which are connected by corridors as well as by people movers and buses.
The SkyLine people mover can be accessed at its stations on level 4: T1 concourse A, T1 concourse B, T2 between concourses D and E.
Terminal 1
Terminal 1 opened on 14 March 1972. It was designed in a modern style for the period, with polished silver interiors and corrugated walls. It is divided into three concourses. Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partners currently dominate all of Terminal 1.
Concourse A
Concourse A has gates on two levels, with gates numbered A51 through A65 positioned directly above gates numbered A08 through A42 [1]. Passengers checking in at Frankfurt must go through two separate security checkpoints in order to reach gates A60 through A65. Restrooms in Concourse A have a maximum capacity of between one and three people. The concourse has no water fountains, although the water in the toilet sinks is labelled as drinkable.

Airside Facilities
Frankfurt International Airport has two cargo terminals (north and south) as well as a large mail sorting facility (the airport is the hub of the German mail flight network).
To the south of the runways there is a sizable General Aviation Area.
Lufthansa has its operational base at the airport with a large number of hangars and technical facilities for smaller repairs as well as minor overhaul operations.
Expansion Plans
- There are currently plans to build a fourth runway to the northwest of the airport, across the motorway. This would be landing-only.
- A new terminal is to be constructed south of the runways on the area formerly occupied by the USAF-base.
- Lufthansa is currently constructing a new hangar for its A380s south of the runways next to the old AeroLloyd hangars.
Landside Facilities
Both terminals boast a large number of shops covering all ranges. Duty-Free shopping is provided by the airport itself.
Restaurants and bars for almost every cuisine cater for your needs.

WiFi
Public WiFi at Frankfurt Airport is provided by T-Mobile. T-Com and T-Mobile customers need to send a mobile text message containing the word 'OPEN' to 9526 to obtain an access code and will be charged on their customer account. Non-customers can buy minutes by credit-card on connecting.
ID and more
The airport has a cantina for airline and airport employees. It is near the crew briefing area (Level 4, right side). You need to obtain a cash card in advance (get one at the counter directly in front of you when entering the cantina) which can be credited at the machines to the right of the entrance. Food is generally very cheap and tasty.
Right next to the Lufthansa base you will find the airline's crew shop "Ringeltaube". It is located opposite gate 21, to the west of the terminals (around 5 mins by foot from T1). Great duty-free shopping and nice discounts for airliners.
Lufthansa Car Pool provides cheap rental cars for crews. Rates start at less than €1.00/hr or €16.50/day. No reservation possible. Call 069-696 73888.
Ground Transportation
By Car
FRA sits in a prime location directly next to the "Frankfurter Kreuz" (Frankfurt motorway interchange), where the major arteries A3 and A5 meet. It is directly connected to the interchange as well as to major local roads.
By Train
The airport is connected to rails services by two railway stations:
- Frankfurt (Main) Flughafen Fernbahnhof: Served by Intercity Rail Services (mostly ICE) on the Cologne-Frankfurt high-speed rail line. It is located in front of Terminal 1, behind the car parks. Rail services to (among others): Frankfurt, Cologne, Düsseldorf, the Ruhr Area, Amsterdam, Stuttgart, Mannheim, Munich, Nuremburg, Zurich, Basel, Hanover, Hamburg.
- Frankfurt (Main) Flughafen Regionalbahnhof: Served by regional as well as suburban commuter trains. It is located directly beneath Terminal 1. Rail Services to (among others): Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Mainz, Hanau.
By Bus
Each Terminal has its own bus station served by both regional lines as well as Intercity Buses and Airline Shuttles. There is also a bus connection to Frankfurt-Hahn Airport for travellers wishing to connect with flights there.
By Taxi
Taxi ranks are located in front of both terminals. A ride into the city centre costs around €20.00 - €25.00. Please note that most taxis might not take passengers to distant locations. You should book a limousine service for longer journeys (available at both terminals)
Rental Cars
All large car rental companies have counters at both terminals.
