AAdvantage is American Airlines' frequent flier program and is one of the oldest in the country. Founded roughly 20 years ago, AAdvantage provides significant earning opportunities through American Airlines travel, AAdvantage credit cards, and stores that offer miles for purchases.

Recently, however, American Airlines has come under fire for not divesting AAdvantage because of the short term liquidity that it will provide the airline. Instead, parent company AMR Corp. has decided to let the regional carrier American Eagle to go free instead of AAdvantage.
